The Man

I am a Microsoft Excel MVP, I run the YouTube channel Excel on Fire and have several courses on the LinkedIn Learning platform. When I’m not working in Excel, raconteur and Excel MVP. I’m known for my fierce commitment to empowering people who don’t have an IT team or the skillset to manage their own data.

I am also the lead author of Guerrilla Data Analysis 2nd Ed., co-written with Mr. Excel, Bill Jelen. I relocated to Portland, OR in 2014 after 19 years in Chicago, and I’m known for my passion for ghost pepper Sriracha.

Words that people have used to describe me have been: mentor, fun, funny, and patient. People appreciate that I show them the WHEN and WHY, not just the HOW.

I think of myself as kind of an ornery cowboy in regards to data, and I encourage people to go rogue if it means they can get something done for their customers.

Storytelling du Soleil

Much like his Excel coaching, Oz’ storytelling is both entertaining and enlightening. In widely acclaimed productions like 7 Deadly Sins, Pants on Fire, and the RISK! live show and podcast, Oz makes you laugh out loud even as he lands a gut punch of emotion. Plus, as one fan notes, “Dude has a super soothing voice.”

What do people say about Oz?

Oz reached into my brain, grabbed my problems, put them on his screen and… pooof! …they were gone!

John

Oz is blowing my mind. I just got comfortable moving from VLOOKUP to INDEX-MATCH!! It’s like watching a street magician

Anna

I really have to thank you. I have learned so much from you! Because of things like this my reputation at work has exploded. And it’s the kind of rep you want to have at work. Your passion on the subject makes you stand out. I can tell you truly do understand! And that you truly do want to make things less stressful. Those two things rang true in my heart. That’s the way I feel but not many people get it. How can I even begin to thank you??

JoAnn

Just wanted to follow-up and let you know that your solution worked perfectly. I designed the budget template, after taking the course,  with PowerQuery in mind.  This will save us hours each month when we have to update.

Mike

Your solution was quick to implement and very easy to follow. Thanks again.

Donna Bruce

Great course and excellent presentation!  I always thought of Excel as potentially useful for those who master it, but difficult for most people (at least for me). I NEVER thought about it as something cool! Now, Excel has moved up on my coolness scale. Thank you!

T. Jansen

Thanks to the teaching magic of Oz du Soleil! He made this new Excel functionality easy to understand and learn.

Jim H.

The examples of Excel use shown were really interesting and inspiring. It was engaging and I now feel encouraged to use Excel more often. Slowly but surely, I am getting drawn to the world of data.

[Oz] was great, really enthused, I would watch anything from Oz du Soleil

Glad to have you as the instructor for that course.  You have a very nice and “gangsta-esque” accent by the way just like DJ khaled :)
